Toy Blocks
Hand Painted Wooden Blocks.
Have you ever walked through an Arts and Crafts section or store and found unique items that you thought would be one project but ended up becoming something you didn’t initially think about?
That’s what happened when I found these dice blocks. I thought I would create something for the BXArtsFactory Hearts Market that occurred this past weekend, February 1st, that had something to do with a cute rolling dice game.
As I was prepping the blocks, I was thinking about all of the wooden toys that used to be popular, and I thought of the mix-matched block toys that I even had as a kid.
I thought it would be such a fun and cute project, and I’m so happy about how right I was.
Priming with Clear Gesso
I prepped the blocks with a clear gesso. I didn’t have sandpaper, but the texture added to the painting.
I will sand down the next batch to have a more smooth surface.
The first character design
Because my thought was based on classic wooden toys, I decided to give that feel with the character design.
This character has more of a pin up look and I think she’s adorable!
Second character design
I considered connecting this to my work and the character designs I used for my business cards.
If you’ve seen or had the chance to collect my business cards, I have a frog, tiger, and bunny characters on separate cards.
I like the idea of everyone having something unique and a collector’s item.
Seeing if the blocks match
Now I’m getting the ball rolling and seeing if the blocks match.

I had so much fun with this project and can’t wait to work on it more!
