Behind the Faces: Designing Characters That Pop, Pout & Purr

Hey hey! 💕 Welcome to another splash of color from Bunny Lee’s World! Today, we’re diving into the three round-faced rascals who’ve been turning heads and raising brows. They’re cute. They’re bold. They’re kinda judgy—but in a fabulous way. Let’s talk character design, baby.

🌟 Why Round Faces?

I love designing with exaggerated round faces—it gives a sense of softness and exaggeration that feels both nostalgic and stylized. These characters are expressive, readable, and a little mischievous. Their symmetry adds a meditative vibe, while their facial expressions keep things punchy. Think dolls with sass. Or masks that gossip.

🐸The Horned One – "Frog Babe"

Let’s start from the top: this fierce, horned character in electric blue is rocking a look that says regal warrior meets 90s anime rival.

  • Inspo? Bull horns, classic shoujo styles, and bold eyeliner.

  • Color Story: Blue, red-orange, and muted cream—this palette is loud, direct, but grounded.

  • Vibes: Protective, intense, but secretly soft if you catch her during snack time.

Her horns echo a strength and presence—like, she doesn’t walk into a room, she arrives. The little hearts on her forehead adds a whimsical touch to an otherwise powerful face.

🐯 The Cat Cutie – "Tiger Muse"

Second in the lineup is this tiger-eared beauty, rocking animal print and a whole lotta attitude.

  • Inspo? Big cat energy, bedroom eyes, and cozy warmth.

  • Color Story: Earth tones and soft blues—inviting, but with a bite.

  • Vibes: She’ll steal your hoodie and your heart, then call you out for being late.

The ruffled mane frames her face like a lioness crown, but the tiger stripes remind us she’s no tame kitty. There’s a strong sense of playful rebellion here—wild, but always cute.

🐰 The Bunny Babe – "Dream Drop"

Last in the trio, we’ve got our long-eared sweetheart with a look that’s soft, dreamy, and totally captivating.

  • Inspo? Bunny hoodies, glam makeup, and a bit of vintage diva energy.

  • Color Story: Blush pinks and juicy reds with striking blue shadows.

  • Vibes: Quiet confidence. She listens more than she speaks—but when she does? It’s iconic.

Her rounded cheeks and delicate lashes give her a gentle aura, but don’t be fooled—she’s got presence. Sweet but sharp, dreamy but grounded.

✨ Character Design Vibes

When I design characters, I think about mood and emotion first—What are they feeling? What do they want you to feel when you look at them? These characters are built around contrast: softness with strength, sweetness with edge, roundness with sharp style.

I’m drawn to expressive silhouettes, bold color combos, and details that feel wearable—like their looks could inspire outfits, stickers, or plushies. It’s all about creating characters that feel full of life, even in a still image.

They’re not from a specific story or world—they’re moodboards with a face. Snapshots of energy. Emotions you can wear.

🧡 Final Thoughts

Designing these characters was about capturing attitude through aesthetic. Each one says something without speaking, and that’s the magic I chase in my work.
