The Everyday Ritual That Grounds My Creativity
What’s a tiny creative habit that makes your day better?
Breathwork. It’s the simplest, most accessible habit that completely shifts the energy of my day. Whether it’s a quick box breath (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4) or circular breathing (in and out with no pause, then a hold), just taking a few mindful moments to breathe helps me land in my body, clear my mind, and actually start.
My thoughts tend to spiral, overthinking, getting overwhelmed, or doomscrolling into avoidance. Breathwork pulls me out of that loop. It teaches me what focus feels like, and I carry that into whatever creative work I’m doing.
Is breathwork a creative habit? I really think so. You’re creating space inward to express outward. It’s like prepping a canvas: your breath preps your body and mind so your actions, your art, your writing, your work, can flow.
Honestly, I could’ve said “sketching” or “doodling,” but the one constant that’s kept me grounded is breathwork. It’s the foundation. And it doesn’t require anything fancy, just intention. You can do it anywhere: on a walk, in transit, at home.
So maybe give it a try. What tiny habit helps you get through the day? Do you practice breathwork too? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear.
