Paper-cutting Collage: Memory & Reflection.
On March 14, 2026, I had the pleasure of hosting my second workshop of a three-part series for my residency at BX Arts Factory: Paper-Cutting Collage: Memory & Reflection.
This workshop was centered around using memory to form shapes and colors into images. I wanted to encourage everyone to reach into a part of themselves and pull out creativity they might not have practiced before.
Of course, like all my workshops, I include the foundation of creating with the medium. I want art to feel accessible and tangible, something you can just pick up and start.
Materials used were:
canvas board
double-sided tape
glue stick
construction paper
All of these materials you can find at the Dollar Tree!
Paper-cutting is a new medium for me too. I discovered it when I felt inspired to embellish a piece I titled “Hilda la Bailarina.” That piece was inspired by my grandmother and our Puerto Rican culture. I wanted to add something more without having to paint. I’m an art supply hoarder (iykyk), and I had construction paper just laying around.
Everything I taught comes from my own trial and error, from what works for me. I hope the workshop helped people continue with their projects or even continue exploring this medium on their own.
I’m so grateful to be building this community, especially in the arts. I try my best to show up not only with techniques and knowledge, but with inspiration. That you can create with so little, in so many different ways, and that art is meant to be explored.
Thank you to everyone who came out. Thank you for creating with me!
And thank you to BX Arts Factory for giving us the space to build community, and for providing resources for people to discover themselves through art.
