‘It’s all in your perspective.” Group art show.
I just want to take a moment to give a big, heartfelt thank you to the incredible curator Fablejones_studios and El Barrio Artspace for hosting so many amazing artists in such a beautiful and welcoming space. Seriously, what a gift.
To be honest, I hadn’t even heard of El Barrio’s Artspace PS109 until I went to drop off my work. As I walked up to the building, this school-looking structure stopped me in my tracks. The entrance alone is something out of a movie. Grand and kind of magical, like it holds a thousand stories.
El Barrio Artspace is in East Harlem, and it’s this super cool community-driven space that turned a historic public school into something really special. The building itself opened way back in 1898 and was designed by Charles B.J. Snyder. After sitting unused for years, the space was reimagined and brought back to life—now it’s affordable live/work housing for artists and their families, plus gallery and commercial space. Isn’t that amazing? Like, it exists right here in Harlem. I had no idea. And now my art is hanging in that building? Still processing that. Honestly.
But that’s not even the whole story. Let’s talk about the curation, because wow. Fable Jones, who is a talented artist in his own right, put so much thought and care into how the work was arranged. The flow of the show, the way each piece had room to breathe... it really allowed each artist’s work to speak for itself. Nothing felt cramped or rushed. You could just stand there and soak it all in. It was such a beautiful experience to witness.
Being a part of this show, surrounded by work that felt so intentional and full of meaning, was truly humbling. To be in the same room as these artists, people who are masters of their craft, and to be able to share space, exchange thoughts, feel that creative energy bouncing around the room… it was inspiring in the best way. You leave events like this filled with a kind of quiet fire to keep going.
If you weren’t able to make the opening, please do yourself a favor and go visit the show—it’s up until Friday, August 29th. You can contact either Fable Jones or El Barrio Artspace directly to find out visiting hours or set something up. And if you have any questions about my work that’s in the show, don’t be shy—reach out to me through email. I’d love to talk about it.
All in all, it was just a really lovely evening. Beautiful art, good people, a historic space, and a whole lot of inspiration. I feel honored and really thankful to be part of it.
Jojo Pose. heh.
Until next time babes!
