Macha Robots!

A Little Update

Can you believe it’s only been three days since I took a break from social media, and my screen time dropped by 85%? Wild, right? I used to be on my phone for almost seven hours a day. Seven. Hours. A. Day. Since stepping back, I’ve actually been getting so much done, and honestly… I don’t think having social media on my phone works for me. I’m just better without it.

Will it hurt my business? Maybe. But I’m still going to try. I’ll post again eventually, just not like before. I need to breathe.

Now onto the fun stuff!

Do you remember the first time you saw your first Gundam series? For me, it was Gundam Wing on Toonami. I thought the robot designs were so cool, but honestly, I didn’t get too into it at the time. I kinda thought it was boring.

Then I heard the opening for G Gundam... and my world changed. That series will forever be my favorite. The character designs, the wild mecha styles, the over-the-top energy, it was just pure fun for me as a kid.

My brother used to build Gundams growing up, and I remember seeing all the different ones he had. The Zaku design was my favorite: the mono-eye, the round helmet, that chunky armor. I always thought it looked cute, especially the chibi versions.

But that’s not the only robot that stuck with me. My favorite anime ever has a robot too, Lord Canti from FLCL. That show basically shaped who I am, no joke. The characters, the chaos, the weirdness, it’s like it rewired my brain in the best way.

Meet My New Robot (and Her Pilot!)

All that nostalgia kinda inspired me recently, so I decided to create my own robot, and its pilot too. I started with their heads first (that’s just how my brain works sometimes), turned them into stickers, then took a long break before coming back to build out the characters more. I always circle back to things months later; it’s just part of my creative process.

I wanted to make something bright and fun. I don’t have a backstory or names yet… maybe you can help me with that part.

Isn’t she awesome, though? When I was drawing her, I imagined someone who loves her job, can totally kick ass, and pilots this massive machine with confidence. I wanted her to have two sides, calm and stoic outside the suit, but playful and full of joy once she’s in control of the robot. Like her inner child comes out when she’s piloting.

I’m trying to get better at creating character backstories, really breathing life into my designs. I actually have some old punk girl band characters I might revisit soon too.

But that’s all for now.
I hope you enjoy this new character! Help me come up with a name, or maybe a little backstory—what do you imagine when you see her and her mecha?
